NOW- the 6 random things blog-I got tagged

I got hit with a 6 random things post request so here it is...sorry I'm sick, I'll come back and add links later. Feel free to take it and run with it on your blog if you need a writing prompt.

1. Everyone here is sick. Each of us a little different from the type of sick to the person we sleep next to. There is 1 ear infection w/ cough, one lung infection w/ contractions and 1 case of sore throat w/ a side of cough. Due to this, two people in this house are finally on antibiotics, one is on cough syrup and one is still on home treatment although all 3 have been to the Dr, 1 has been to the ER and that same one has seen 3 Dr's in 3 days.

2. On the day that Layla's preschool took pictures, I had no warning. We had just started...I believe it was our 2nd Monday (so day 4) and I said, oh what the heck, you can try. She had on a tshirt and jeans and she hadn't had a bath that morning. The pictures are better then the ones we planned for and spent twice as much on at the studio. Kids!

3. I can't find the book I was reading. I was reading it a few weeks back and then everything went to hell in a hand basket. Worse part, I can't remember the title. So I have been picking up books, reading the first paragraph and trying to remember if I have finished them or not. *sigh*

4. I'm a hippy. When we had our first daughter I had a few church friends and family members that commented on EVERY.single.CHOICE I made. It scared me. So I stopped telling them things... I hid my sling and used it when people weren't looking, I stopped talking about how my daughter slept in our bed for the first year. I just got quiet. Not so much on Baby Bean, her/his registery is full of co-sleeping and babywearing stuff. I'm me. I'm over it.

5. I have two sets of blogs I read. One set is in the blogs I read section here on blogger. The other set is in my Blackberry. The two sets don't mingle. I actually enjoy the ones not listed as much (if not more depending on the blog) than the ones listed here. But I like having secrets.

6. I take about 5 pictures of Layla a day. I take more pictures on special days or days when she's doing something new or exceptionally cute. Despite this tactic there are at least 10 things I can think of right now that I have yet to catch on camera or video. Did you know she sings like 6 songs now? And she knows her whole alphabet (if only she didn't say it so fast). She can count to 10. She has songs with hand motions. None of that is on film yet. And that's just the start.

On the right day, in the right light, from the right angle before I have time to do anything which might result in messing it up... I do clean up pretty good still.

Why today was a good day... a list...

• I took my shower last night so I got to sleep in.
• Thanks to a larger bed, I got to sleep without extra blankets touching me and didn't wake up hot and have to take a shower again.
• I got praise at work
• I needed to pitch in $10 at work for a birthday present for 2 people, I found $10 in my pocket which had been washed with my jeans when I got dressed this morning.
• There were cookies
• My mom left the anti-christ and moved in with Pop's and we went for a visit and no one left offended
• Jon got to sleep in until 8
• Layla ate some of her dinner and it wasn't yogurt
• Tomorrow is the fair and my company picnic which will have free BBQ
• I had a good "god related" dream last night
• It's almost time for Jen's baby shower and I am excited to soon meet Miss Mia
• I have a new book to read
• There is enough pepsi, ice and sunflower seeds to get me through an entire new book tonight
• The fan feels good
• I got to wear trendy jewelry this afternoon
• An old friend popped back up and made me smile
• There was a bible verse on my car when I left work today
• I've started following some new cool blogs
• Tomorrow there will be brownies & entourage while the baby naps

Me & James

I wish my life were less in need of James Allen quotes but I find myself thinking of them often now-a-days when life keeps testing me and I keep failing. There are moments when they just pop up in front of me and I sort of giggle to myself.

When I want to ripe into the girl at the cell phone company for making an unbelievable commitment to make feel like sh*t for just asking questions & I fit the urge until we get off the phone remaining civil to the very end...

Circumstances do not make the man, they reveal him.

When my husband and I get into a "what if" conversation about the future which for him is just blowing smoke and being chill and for me is the small glimmer of hope and I spend the next two days wondering beyong wonder if we could really pull it off someday...

Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so you shall become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.

When I have trouble staying motivated at work because my manager has no idea what sort of things make me want to take ownership in the things I do and things around me that could make the company I work for great...

For true success ask yourself these four questions: Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?

And then there are those moments in the dead of night when I can't sleep and my thoughts drag me down wicked roads into wild games I do not wish to play and I lay in the darkness trying to remind myself...

A man has to learn that he cannot command things, but that he can command himself; that he cannot coerce the wills of others, but that he can mold and master his own will: and things serve him who serves Truth; people seek guidance of him who is master of himself.

And the moments just like now when I wonder if I'll ever be able to be creative and fun and wonderful again. When I wonder how much longer I will be tested by pink bills and last minute suprises in my budget...

If you real desire is to be good, there is no need to wait for the money before you do it; you can do it now, this very moment, and just where you are.

Joy

I was prompted for yet another blog MIME thingy. This one is about JOY. I'm supposed to list 6 things (random number no?) which give me joy and tag 2 other people to do that same. So... here I go...

I get a lot of joy from reading fiction books about supernatural creatures which I can relate to. I enjoy the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs because the lead character reminds me of my friend Lynn. I love the Succubus Blues books by Richelle Mead because the erractic book store employees remind me of a job I once had working Renaissance faires. I love the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyers because I love the witty banter between Bella and Edward (more evident in the book than the movie). I love the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris because the southern locals remind me of people in my family, and the people I grew up around. I also have a found place in my heart for the Kelley Armstrong books about the Clairvoyant Chloe Saunders because she wants to be so normal in an environment that is filled with other people's drama. Who can't relate to that.

I ironically get the same amount of joy from Hallmark movies. I especially like the Love series which follows a family of Christian settlers who have to make there way through a harsh land following what God tells them to do. (Not anything like the supernatural stuff I read I assure you).

I get a great amount of joy from cooking, eating, reading about and otherwise exploring new foods. I love the time of year when the produce stands are open and everything is fresh and wonderfully ripe smelling in the summer sun. I love bringing those foods home and making them to share with my friends and family. I also love going out to eat so that I can bring ideas about new things to try home with me.

I love and get great joy from spending time with my family and friends playing games and laughing about nothing. I'm definitely a people person. I love boring moments in front of a movie with the hubby or chasing the baby around the kitchen dancing like a dork. I enjoy when company comes calling and stays longer than expected and when people come to visit.

I get joy from feeling compelled. I don't care if it's that tugging of your heart strings by God himself, a test from the devil that you've got to beat, the words of a friend, the sentiments of stranger or even the songs of the windchimes in the breeze. I love that wind makes me want to twirl, twilight makes me want to whisper and my dreams make me want to explore the life I have been given.

I Heart BlackBerry BackUp

Ok... so the phone died. You know that part. But what you don't know is why... well it broke because some lady I knew in highschool sent me a forward (which she does a lot) and my phone previewed it which counts as opening it (just like the view window in outlook) and it had a virus.

The virus was wimpy so it didn't hurt my PC but it killed my phone. The phone started eating any message that I sent out, most messages that I recieved via text, etc...

It was tragic

But, my phone is under warranty and it was supposed to have virus protection... so now two days after I made my complaint to AT & T wireless the nice people at Blackberry have sent me a cranberry red pearle just like my last one...

Minus a virus.

Jon is currently putting my myspace back on my phone and thanks to the Blackberry back up on my PC from the 10th, I only lost whatever messages I received (and didn't notice missing) since last Thursday.

It even kept my bookmarks for the internet.

I love this phone.

Tag I'm it AGAIN

I got tagged for another writing prompt thingy. This one you list 10 random things about yourself and FOOD...

1. I won't eat brussel sprouts. When I was little my parents tried to make me and I reinacted the scene from Pultergiest with the split pea soup. No brussel sprouts.

2. I actually have dreams where I am eating garlic goat cheese on club crackers while drinking pepsi with ice and reading a book by the ocean. *Pathetic*

3. I'm allergic to citrus fruits so I have to watch what I eat. Not long ago I hugged a little kid and had a citrus burn hand print on my neck for 3 days.

4. I'd rather eat milk chocolate Hershey bars than expensive chocolate.

5. I buy organic when I can and when it's priced reasonably. When I go back to work we'll be going back to mostly organic like we were before I lost my job.

6. I love food so much I made a website called FatGirlEats to post recipes from my life and childhood on. My favorite recipe there right now is for Cranberry Relish like my Aunt Penny used to make on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

7. I remember times in my life by the things I ate during those times. I once catered a party back when I owned LadyWickedCatering and I served this salad that had a horseradish salad dressing with blue cheese in it. I remember the way it felt in my throat while I laughed flirting with a serving person.

8. I'm such a big girl that I think about what I'll be eating for dinner all day long. Sometimes I think about it so much I over-eat at dinner. If I have plans with someone and they cancel I'm bummer but if it was lunch or dinner plans which I have been thinking about all day I tend to take it personally.

9. I can't make good meatloaf. It frustrates me so much I won't even order meatloaf when I go out now. Stupid meatloaf.

10. I used to make homemade fudge with chilli pepper in it. I had to stop making it because when I did I would eat the whole pan, and then because I felt bad about eating the first pan I'd make another... and so on... until I was sick to my stomach.

Autumn

We're rolling right into my favorite season. The morning air has a light fog, there is a hint of frosty winter mornings on the breeze at night, and the leaves are changing colors. It's almost full swing into Autumn. I wait desperate for rainy days and foggy mornings. I am probably one of the few people on the planet that LOVE fog and rain.

As soon as the air is cold I'm counting down to winter and Christmas (just 8 weeks away) but in my heart Autumn holds a special place. The first time you pull out your scarves, the first time you need a hot coco to warm up pink little noses and fingers... it's all fall... Autumn... my first love.

Writing Prompt- Baggage

They looked off at the grim task before them. Abandoned mounds of rubble in each direction. Where should I even begin? They each wondered to themselves in silence.

It wasn't the sort of thing you could discuss before doing it. It was overwhelming just to be there much less to be the one that had to approach this disaster first. Do I pick up all the big things first so I'm making a bigger impact or do I start with the small things and work my way up? Some of them contemplated.

While some of them stood in silent awe, others paced in nervous anticipation. Some mumbled under their breath, while others still could barely breath. Maybe I'll just pick up the things closest to me and see if I can do something with them? A few of them mustered a clear thought from the haze of the morning ahead.

It was perfectly clear. What had been could be no more. What now? Clean up. But how? One piece at a time...

But what first. How? So many of them were stuck on the how. A few were even still stuck on the why me. Why me God, why do I have to be the one to deal with this now?

No answer came from the piles, no answer fell from the heavens, no one spoke, and if anyone was listening no one could feel it in their heart.

They were numb looking at their baggage piled around them, suddenly a visible reminder of what they had already come through. The little bags laying around the big ones. Some so tiny they looked like they should crush under the weight of all the other things around them. Some so big they knew no one man could carry them alone.

Is this all mine? surely not they imagined, I would remember all this.

Time faded most of their bags until only the tags marked them as their own. I'd almost forgotten. they'd whisper when they saw their own writing to remind them.

I'd almost forgotten and yet I was carrying this with me all along.

TODAY

This writing prompt is for you to list three things about your day today and explain why they are randomly important.

1. Today I didn't get ready for a yardsale, worry about not having a job and getting UI checks, and I didn't have to call someone while minutes weren't free on my cell phone because for the first time in a few weeks now...today there wasn't anything to worry about and I got to enjoy just one day.

2. Today the baby got up at 7, took a nap at 7:30 for 2 hours then took another two hour nap at 11 and went down for another nap at 4 which she is still taking now... this is important because she is either cutting molars or growing, both of which are big deals...and it's shocking because she got up at 5:30 the three days prior to this one.

3. Today I took a shower and then put on another pair of pjs... not because I was depressed but because I was happy and content with no where to go.

7 Random Facts MIME

I got tagged for another MIME in email and as usual I'm posting it here for people to do if they would like as a cheap thrill writing prompt. Here are the 7 random things about me... as the instructions I was given in email these 7 wonderful things are all things still "CURRENT" and not about my past. At least not directly about my past. (evil grin)

1. I have been reading the Chowhound site for ages and looking at all the lovely posts and thinking to myself "Why doesn't any ever write about the food here in the Central Valley?" I mean afterall that is where most of the produce comes from. So today I got up the nerve to make my own new login. You see I had a log in a few years back... you know back in my bitter past... and it was time to start anew. While I was at it I created a food blog because I had one of those long ago when I was on Chowhounds and it seemed only right to jump in with both feet if I was really going to jump back in.

2. I'm currently looking for a job in that swiss cheese classifieds sort of way. I have never in my life seen so many crappy jobs posted while all the upper Administrative Management positions are missing. I mean really... a super walmart and a super target opening within 15 minutes of home in each direction. Come on people?

3. In the morning I sometimes pretend to be asleep so I can watch what my daughter does when she's left to her own devices and thinks that no one is watching her. As it appears, my daughter is very much like me and after a few minutes of trying to get her hands on the things she knows she's not supposed to she gets bored with the freedom of being alone and starts to crave company. Usually this means poking either myself or her father until one of us wakes up to play with her. She greets us with a big "hi" and lately with a wave that she taught herself to do. It's the best part of waking up... I don't care what Folgers says.

4. Despite thinking I should lose weight on Saturday morning I sent my husband for some doughnuts to put an end to a craving I had been having since watching Donut Paradise on the Travel Channel the night before. Then I ate 4 in one day.

5. My first mother's day wasn't anything like I imagined my first mother's day to be. So when it was over and I was in bed I laid there for awhile thinking of how I hoped it would be next year before common sense caught up with me and I decided being a Mom was more important than Mother's Day and that thinking about Mother's Day in advance just makes you end up in bed at the end of another Mother's Day pondering the same question.

6. This weekend I am going to the first of many food festivals this food festival season. This weekend is both the Hughson Fruit & Nut Festival and the Oakdale Chocolate Festival (which I find funny being as the Hershey's Chocolate Factory in Oakdale closed down) but I forgive them because they are having a $5.00 chocolate event that I can go to with family and friends. I am looking forward to teaching my daughter about cheap, fun, community based events like my parents taught me.

7. I have become addicted to the travel channel, showing particularly high interest to shows about food. (suprise suprise) Heck I'll even watch Anthony Bourdain or whatever the heck his name is.
