Moments

Every day is just a taped together jigsaw puzzle of moments. Some of those moments fit perfectly into our lives and some of them...well some of them are jammed into the tight spots and stuck together with two sided tape.

This becomes even more clear when there is a two year old (or almost 2 year old) in your home. One moment you can be posing sweetly for a photo and some time later you'll realize that the snotty screaming person next to you really is that same child.
And all it took was a moment. The moment you cut her pizza the wrong way. The moment you said she had to go on time out because biting is not "nice". The moment your husband took her juice cup because she was all done and she told him so.
Moments when the earth shattered, the moon fell from the sky and you had to count slowly backwards from ten in your head to keep your sanity...or keep from laughing... or keep trying to get the same message across.
Twenty years from now you probably won't remember the moment she declared she was a pretty dancer or the moment she threw a block at you for suggesting she not touch the water fountain by the TV.
Twenty years from now you'll remember the moments she hugged you a little too hard or the moments she begged you to read her that stupid ladybug book ONE MORE TIME PUHWEEAASE.
Twenty years from now she won't remember any of this. She'll be too busy wanting to borrow cars, stay out late and kiss boys. And so it doesn't matter that now that she's sleeping and at THIS moment you feel like you didn't do a good enough job trying to juggle lots of things at once. Let's face it, no one ever thinks they did a good enough job juggling lots of things at once...especially when one of those things has little words to express what it wants and what it thinks it needs. It doesn't matter about the moments that just flew past you because tomorrow... an even bigger moment will happen... just wait a moment... and you'll see.
